In the book Misfits Welcome, Matthew Barnett says that misfit ideas require faith. In life, there will always be some ideas that would never succeed until a courageous step is taken.
A couple of years ago, I decided to help churches and businesses get unstuck on a full-time basis. Launching a start-up company is a big responsibility. I am the provider for my family and there were definitely risks involved. As our team continues to grow, there are always decisions that require faith.
Sometimes taking the first step requires giving up what you already have:
- If you want to launch a start-up, you have to give up the security and comfort of your current job.
- If you want to go to the next level in your leadership, you have to rethink how you have led in the past.
- If you want a healthy marriage, you have to give-up your selfish pursuits to prioritize the needs of your spouse.
These three examples defy logic but as I’ve said in the past, “The bigger risk is to never engage the unknown.” Rarely does growth and fulfillment happen in the places where we are most comfortable.
Make sure to keep your inner calling louder than your natural tendency to hang on to what is comfortable.
