Save money and keep communication channels open

Sending emails or regular mail pieces to the wrong group of people is not only costly, but detrimental to your purpose. If your congregants continually receive non-relevant communications, they may stop reading any of your communications. Use your database search tools to target specific people related to your message.

Identify active members of your church

All churches have members who have moved away or joined another church without giving any notification. The way you can determine active members is to combine conditions in a search. Look for people with a member status and who have either attended or contributed in the past year. People who have moved away or joined another church will probably not fit those conditions.

Target specific demographics

Your church is having a seminar for single parents. Finding them is easy if you can combine some specific conditions as follows: Those with a marital status that are not married (that would include single, divorced, widowed, and separated) as well as having children in the family. You would also want to specify just the primary adults in the family so that you do not send an email to a child.

Find people who are not being discipled

Why advertise a new small group to people who are already enrolled in one? Find people in your database that have recently visited your worship service and are not enrolled in a small group. Further qualify the search by adding an age range.

Keep in touch with absentee group members

Be intentional in following-up with those in your life groups who miss 2 or 3 weeks in a row. Find those who are active, that is, they attended more than a specified number of meetings during the past 6 months. Then add to your search those who have not attended at all in the past 2 or 3 weeks. Send an email just to the missing members letting them know that you care about them.

Sharpen your search skills to discover new opportunities
