Be honest — Is your church using social media effectively? Most churches we visit across the country feel like this is an area where they are not hitting it out of the park.
With that in mind, I recently caught up with two of my former colleagues at NewSpring Church to get their take on how social media can work for ministry. My team is always on the lookout for churches who are truly effective in their use of social media, and NewSpring Church is one we believe jumps to the top of the list.
Here are a few of the highlights from the interview:
- CHRIS: We would rather inspire you with a helpful article, and then at the end, give you an opportunity to find more information, than we would make an announcement to you. We spend a lot of our energy on being helpful.
- SUZANNE: In our culture, people are living their life [on social media]. We want to be part of the conversations they are having that our relevant in our culture, because many times they are asking questions. We believe Jesus is ultimately the answer they’re looking for. So, if we can join them in those spaces and ultimately answer their questions with Jesus and point them back to the Church, that’s a huge win. And it’s a great way for us to help advance the Gospel and help our church continue to grow.
- SUZANNE: [Perry] understands that social media is a tool that can advance the vision for our church. It’s super helpful for a senior pastor to be involved and to embrace what it can be.
- CHRIS: Numbers won’t lie to us. Our feelings will lie to us. If we’ve written a blog post that we’ve spent a lot of time on, that we feel is the greatest ever… when we look at the numbers and they tell a different story, it helps us get a better perspective on what we write.
